"Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see thee hungry and feed thee, or thirsty and give thee drink? And when did we see thee a stranger and welcome thee, or naked and clothe thee? "Almost half (47 percent) of all unsheltered homeless people in the United States are found in California, about four times higher than their share of the overall United States population. Among the five cities with the highest rates of unsheltered homelessness, four are in California (San Francisco, Los Angeles, Santa Rosa, and San Jose), and the other is Seattle." ~HUD Root Causes of Homelessness in California Several factors contribute to the high rates of homelessness in California: High Cost of Living: California has some of the highest housing costs in the country. Many people cannot afford rent or mortgages, leading to increased homelessness.
