The Cry of Abandonment: Embracing Forgiveness in Our Pain (07/01/'24) -Message

The Cry of Abandonment: Embracing Forgiveness in Our Pain Dear Friends, Today, we gather to reflect on one of the most poignant moments in the life of Jesus Christ—a moment that speaks profoundly to our human experience. "My God, My God, why did You abandon me?" These words, cried out by our Savior, echo through the ages, resonating deeply within the hearts of all who have ever felt the cold sting of abandonment. Abandonment is a landscape familiar to many. It is a place where isolation reigns, and loneliness pierces the soul. In this moment of utter desolation, Jesus was left to suffer alone, bearing the weight of unimaginable sorrow. Yet, through His abandonment, a path to forgiveness was illuminated, showing us that even in the depths of our pain, we can find a way to be free of hurt. Forgiveness, as we learn from His example, is not merely a passive sentiment. It is an active choice, a deliberate step towards healing. Often, in our human frailty, we make poor choices to avoid the specter of abandonment. We seek fleeting comforts and, in our desperation, may even abandon those who stumble, casting judgment upon them. We see their struggles as proof of guilt, turning away in fear and haste. Yet, in Jesus' cry, "My God, My God," we uncover a profound truth. It is a call to embrace our suffering and recognize the transformative power of forgiveness. Abandonment, though a harsh reality, becomes the crucible in which forgiveness is forged. Through His abandonment, Jesus found the strength to forgive, teaching us that through our own pain, we too can rise above and offer grace. Let us take this message to heart. Let us not abandon those who falter, nor judge them hastily. Instead, let us embrace the call to forgive and heal the wounds inflicted by life. In following the footsteps of Jesus, who was abandoned yet forgave, we discover the power to transform our lives, to love unconditionally, and to find freedom in the act of forgiveness. In this divine paradox, we find the strength to transcend our suffering and embrace the boundless grace that heals and restores. May we carry this message with us, letting it guide our actions and our hearts, as we seek to forgive, heal, and love as Christ did. Blessings to you all, Pastor Steven G. Lee (July 1, 2024)
