Statement on the Necessity of a Life-Giving Spirit in Modern Spiritual Discourse* (04/21/'24) -Statement

Statement on the Necessity of a Life-Giving Spirit in Modern Spiritual Discourse In contemporary society, there is a palpable hunger that transcends physical or intellectual needs—a profound longing for a life-giving spirit. This yearning is evident amidst the prevalent discourse that often prioritizes rigid, intellectual exchanges concerning ideas, programs, and societal problems. However, such dialogues seldom satisfy the deeper spiritual cravings that many individuals experience. Central Assertion: We are not merely hungry for information or solutions; we are hungry for a transformative spirit—a spirit that animates, revitalizes, and fundamentally changes our internal and external engagements. This necessity is captured in scriptural teachings where it is stated, "The last Adam became a life-giving Spirit" (1 Corinthians 15:45b), highlighting the essence of spiritual transformation over mere knowledge accumulation. Concerning Intellectual Engagement: Traditional engagement with knowledge—while valuable—often mirrors a "vain flower" that blooms attractively yet fruitlessly in the air, leading to a form of intellectual and spiritual folly (Matthew 7:24, Luke 1:37). This perspective is reinforced by scriptures that suggest a disconnect between earthly wisdom and the profound spiritual insights offered by faith (Romans 11:33, John 8:32). On the Decline of Faith: A notable spiritual crisis emerges as faith in the gospel recedes, leading to a disoriented spirit that lingers ineffectively among superficial attractions, unable to yield the fruits of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-26, John 15:1-8). This condition not only reflects a misalignment with divine truth but also a missed opportunity for genuine spiritual fulfillment. Call to Action: It is imperative that we reorient our spiritual pursuits towards embracing a life-giving spirit—one that transcends the limitations of material or intellectual acquisitions and fosters a deep, transformative connection. This reconnection is crucial not only for individual fulfillment but also for cultivating a community rich in spiritual fruits. Pastor Steven G. Lee (April 21, 2024)
