Subject: Embodying the Shepherd's Heart: Divine Guidance and Human Action (04/16/'24) -Message

Subject: Embodying the Shepherd's Heart: Divine Guidance and Human Action Dear Friends, I hope this message finds you well. Today, I want to share some reflections on the profound relationship between the shepherd and the sheep, as Jesus describes in the Gospel of John: "I am the good shepherd... I know my sheep and they know me. I am willing to die for them" (John 10: 14-15). This deep reciprocal awareness and bond highlight the ultimate expression of love and sacrifice—the willingness to lay down one’s life for others. The Gospel of Mark further emphasizes that truly knowing God is shown by following God’s will, particularly through the commandment to "Love God & Neighbor As Yourself" (Mark 12:30-31). This is not merely a moral guideline but a manifestation of genuine intimacy with the divine, reflected in our actions towards one another. We must also recognize the inherent limitations of human institutions in achieving divine perfection, understanding that human flaws and selfishness can corrupt even the best-intended systems. This insight underscores the challenge of manifesting the kingdom of God on earth solely through societal structures. Additionally, cross-references from Isaiah and Nahum enrich our understanding, depicting God as a shepherd who provides knowledge and protection, and touching upon themes of suffering and knowledge. These scriptures provide a multi-dimensional view of God’s character and His intentions for humanity, illustrating the complex interplay between divine guidance, personal responsibility, and societal structures in our spiritual and worldly existence. Let us reflect on these insights and strive to embody the heart of the shepherd in our daily lives, nurturing a community bound by love, sacrifice, and a commitment to following God's will. Warm regards, Pastor Steven G. Lee (April 16, 2024)
