Subject: Embracing Compassionate Christian Realism* (04/20/'24) -Message

Subject: Embracing Compassionate Christian Realism Dear Friends and Family, I hope this message finds you well. Today, I want to share with you a perspective that has deeply resonated with me, a viewpoint I'm calling "Compassionate Christian Realism." We are living through times of transition, where the familiar structures of the past are giving way, yet the new is still taking shape. In these moments of change, we often encounter confusion and discomfort. However, these challenges also present us with a unique opportunity—to grow, to help, and to live more meaningfully. As we navigate these transitions, it's crucial to remember that we're not alone. We are equipped to offer support to others, drawing on the same comfort and strength that God has provided us. As 2 Corinthians 1:4 reminds us, "We are able to help others who have all kinds of troubles, using the same help that we have received from God." In moments of deep distress, even Jesus sought the presence and watchfulness of His closest friends (Matthew 26:38; Mark 14:34; John 12:27). His vulnerability teaches us that truly living isn't merely about existence but about engaging deeply—with our emotions, our communities, and our faith. Moreover, Jesus' message in Matthew 9:12-13, Mark 2:17, and Luke 5:31-32, challenges us to prioritize mercy over mere ritual, to care actively for those who are spiritually or physically ailing. "I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners," He said, underscoring the importance of serving those in greatest need. Let us, therefore, strive not just to live, but to live profoundly, with purpose and compassion. Let us be physicians to the sick, a source of strength to the weary, and a beacon of hope to the lost. May we embrace this path of Compassionate Christian Realism, making a tangible difference in our world. With warm regards and prayers for your journey, Pastor Steven G. Lee (April 21, 2024)
