The Shepherd's Call: Embodying the Cross in the Pursuit of the Lost
(Luke 15:4-7)
Dear Friends,
In reflecting upon the teachings of Jesus, particularly the Parable of the Lost Sheep as recounted in Luke 15:4-7, we are reminded of the profound dedication and sacrificial love that our Savior, Jesus Christ, demonstrated through His life and death on the cross. The Good Shepherd's journey does not merely represent a path He walked alone; it embodies the very essence of the Gospel message—a call to seek and save the lost.
As followers of Christ, we are invited to see the cross not just as a symbol of suffering but as the ultimate expression of divine love and commitment. Jesus, our Shepherd, ventured into the depths of human brokenness, not for the righteous, but for sinners. His mission was clear: to restore the lost to their rightful place in the embrace of God’s family.
This mission carries a powerful message for each of us today. Are we echoing the Shepherd’s call in our lives? Are we extending our hands and hearts to those who are lost, those who might feel forgotten by the world? The joy that filled the shepherd’s heart upon finding his lost sheep is the same joy that fills Heaven when one sinner repents.
Let us then be inspired by our Shepherd’s love and commitment. Let us participate in this divine reconciliation, becoming active agents of God’s unconditional love. Let this understanding of the cross inspire us to act, to love, and to welcome all with open arms, just as Christ has done for us.
In His Love,
Pastor Steven G. Lee (April 15, 2024)
