Unity and Fulfillment: The Integration of the Old and New Testaments in the Teachings of Jesus (05/03/'24) -Statement

Unity and Fulfillment: The Integration of the Old and New Testaments in the Teachings of Jesus In the Bible, the relationship between the Old and New Testaments is characterized by both tension and unity. While they may appear contradictory, they are reconciled through the teachings and actions of Jesus Christ. He emphasizes that his mission is not to discard the ancient laws and prophecies but to fulfill them, integrating their principles into his gospel. Jesus articulates this in Matthew 5:17-18, where he states, "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For I tell you truly, until heaven and earth pass away, not a single jot, not a stroke of a pen, will disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished." This assertion links to various passages across the Gospels and Epistles, such as Matthew 3:15, 7:12, and Romans 3:31, underscoring the continuity of his message with the Law. Jesus further encapsulates the essence of the Law in his call for empathetic reciprocity: “In everything, do to others as you would have them do to you.” This principle of mutual respect and kindness forms the core of the Gospel, bridging the Old and New Testaments.
