The State of Neo-Feudalism: A Two-Tiered Reality (05/07/'24)

The State of Neo-Feudalism: A Two-Tiered Reality The contemporary era presents us with an unsettling landscape that some characterize as neo-feudalism, where the concentration of wealth and influence in the hands of a powerful elite has reshaped governance and justice. A small, privileged class—making up just 20% of the population yet wielding control over 93% of the wealth—dominates government, finance, media, education, and cultural institutions. Their dominance over legislative and executive branches has turned these institutions into instruments that primarily serve their interests. Corporations, deeply intertwined with this elite class, use their influence to craft laws that safeguard their profits and minimize competition. They secure government contracts that boost their bottom lines and ensure that any penalties for wrongdoing are little more than minor fines. This reveals a justice system that operates on a dual standard: leniency and protection for the corporate and governmental elite, but harsher consequences for the rest of the population. The resulting governance structure is a two-tiered system, where disparities in power and legal accountability create a reality in which "money makes money." This preserves prosperity for the few while leaving the majority with diminishing opportunities. The foundational ideals of fairness and democracy are overshadowed by the persistent inequities that define this modern form of neo-feudalism. Pastor Steven G. Lee (May 7, 2024)
