A Reflection on Values, Society, and Divine Strength (02/26/'24) < Message

A Reflection on Values, Society, and Divine Strength In a world where the fabric of society and family values seems increasingly frayed, we find ourselves surrounded by a culture that often celebrates destruction over creation, exclusion over inclusion. The vivid imagery of Psalm 55:9-11 paints a stark picture of our communities, where violence, oppression, and deceit seem to pervade every corner. Historically, our cities have borne witness to this trend of marginalization. From the "sundown cities" that barred Black individuals after dark, to the "ugly laws" that excluded those with physical deformities from public view, our society has a long history of criminalizing those it deems undesirable. Fast forward to today, and we see the homeless, those most vulnerable, facing similar criminalization for merely trying to survive. This pattern of behavior points to a deeper issue: a societal discomfort with vulnerability and a reluctance to address the root causes of poverty and exclusion. Yet, in the midst of this, we find a message of hope and a call to a different way of life in the example set by Jesus Christ. By choosing disciples from among the marginalized and uneducated, Jesus demonstrated that divine strength and wisdom often manifest in the most unexpected places. It's a profound reminder that true power lies not in societal status or wealth, but in our vulnerability and reliance on God. As we navigate the challenges of our time, let us remember the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These virtues offer a roadmap for personal and societal transformation, guiding us toward a more compassionate, inclusive, and spiritually vibrant community. Let this be a call to action: to embrace our vulnerabilities, to see the divine in those society has marginalized, and to cultivate a community that reflects the fruits of the Spirit. Together, we can forge a path toward healing and renewal, grounded in the strength and love that comes from a place beyond ourselves. Let's share this vision and work towards a society that uplifts everyone, recognizing that our collective strength is found in our compassion, our humility, and our willingness to see the divine in each other.
