Water: A Spiritual Parallel (02/23/'24)

Water: A Spiritual Parallel Water, by its inherent nature, descends from higher elevations to lower ones, mirroring a fundamental principle observable in the physical world. Rain originates in the sky and cascades down to the earth, seeking the path of least resistance, moving instinctively from elevated to lower grounds. This relentless movement towards a lower state exemplifies water's intrinsic characteristic: its journey is always gravitationally bound, directed towards the vastness of the sea. This perpetual flow is what defines water, embodying its essence through the constant, unaided journey towards lower elevations. However, when water defies this natural inclination by moving from lower to higher places, it is not acting on its own accord but is propelled by human intervention, as seen in fountains where water is forced upwards, seemingly reaching towards the sky. This artificial ascension contrasts sharply with water's natural tendency to descend. In a spiritual parallel, the essence of the Gospel, akin to the natural flow of water, does not seek to elevate itself through artificial means or human contrivance. Instead, it aligns with the inherent disposition of Christ's teachings, which resonate deeply with the core of human nature. The Gospel, like rain falling to the earth and rivers flowing to the sea, naturally seeks to fill the lower, humble places of the human heart, illustrating a divine principle: the path of spiritual fulfillment and enlightenment is not one of self-elevation but of humble descent, embodying the virtues Christ exemplified. Blessed are those who embrace this journey, akin to the Beatitudes, which guide us towards humility, compassion, and righteousness. Sharing the Gospel with our neighbors becomes a natural extension of living out these virtues, akin to rain nourishing the earth. By embodying the Gospel's principles, we facilitate a spiritual flow that, unforced, finds its way to the hearts prepared to receive it, much like rivers seamlessly merging with the sea. This spiritual journey, marked by a humble descent, reveals the profound truth that in lowering ourselves, we rise to the essence of our true nature and purpose. Pastor Steven G. Lee (February 23, 2024)
