Subject: Embracing Universal Compassion - Insights from Sacred Texts (03/20/'24) -Message

Subject: Embracing Universal Compassion - Insights from Sacred Texts Dear Friends, I hope this message finds you well. Today, I'd like to share some reflections drawn from various sacred texts, beautifully weaving together themes of compassion, inclusivity, and divine communication across cultural and linguistic barriers. These insights, I believe, hold profound relevance for us today. In the narrative of Jesus's crucifixion (John 19:20), we see a powerful example of universal messaging, with the inscription above Jesus written in Aramaic, Latin, and Greek. This act of inclusivity ensures that the pivotal moment of sacrifice and love was accessible to a diverse audience, transcending linguistic boundaries and emphasizing the universal nature of Jesus's message. The call for empathy and unity is echoed in Leviticus 19:34, where we are reminded of our shared experiences as strangers and urged to love and treat others as our own. This ancient command challenges us to look beyond our differences and recognize the divine spark within every individual. Ezekiel 16:49 brings attention to the societal failings of Sodom, not just in terms of immorality but in their neglect of the poor and needy amidst abundance. It serves as a warning against pride and complacency, urging us to support and uplift the vulnerable among us. Lastly, 1 Corinthians 14:21 references Isaiah's prophecy, highlighting the persistent efforts of the divine to reach out to humanity, even through foreign languages and strangers. This underscores the importance of being open to understanding and communication, beyond the familiar confines of our own language and culture. These passages inspire us to reflect on our actions and attitudes towards others, especially the marginalized. They remind us of the significance of open-hearted communication and understanding across all divides. Let us take these lessons to heart and strive to build a more inclusive, compassionate community, recognizing the divine in everyone and acting with love, humility, and generosity. With warm regards, Pastor Steven G. Lee (March 20, 2024)
