Subject: Understanding Our True Authority and Faith
(Authority, Authenticity, and the True Foundation of Faith)
Dear Friends and Family,
I hope this message finds you well and growing in your journey of faith. Today, I want to share some reflections on two pivotal passages from the Gospels of Luke and Matthew, which together illuminate the profound dimensions of our faith, authority, and relationship with God.
In Luke 10:19-20, we're reminded of the incredible authority Jesus has bestowed upon us over evil forces. This authority, symbolized through the imagery of "trampling on snakes and scorpions," represents our empowerment to overcome all adversities through faith. However, Jesus emphasizes that our joy should not stem from the exercise of this authority, but from the knowledge that our names are written in heaven. This distinction directs our attention away from the pride of spiritual accomplishments and towards the humility and gratitude for our salvation and relationship with God.
Contrastingly, Matthew 7:21-23 presents a sobering reminder that not all who perform mighty works in Jesus' name will enter the kingdom of heaven. The essence of our faith is not captured in the miraculous acts we can perform but in doing the will of the Father. This passage warns us against complacency and the danger of equating spiritual prowess with genuine faith. The key to true discipleship lies in an authentic, obedient relationship with God, which transcends mere external acts.
These teachings, when woven together, offer us a balanced perspective on our spiritual lives. They caution us against spiritual pride and urge us to examine the authenticity of our faith. Our focus should not be on the outward manifestations of power but on fostering a deep, obedient relationship with God. This is the true foundation of our faith and the source of our salvation.
As we share this journey of faith, let us encourage one another to live in humility, to cherish our relationship with God above all else, and to align our lives with His will. May we find true joy in the assurance of our salvation and the privilege of being part of God's family.
May this message inspire reflection and growth in your spiritual journey. Let us hold fast to the true essence of our faith, embracing the authority given to us with humility and living in authentic obedience to God's will.
Blessings and Peace,
Pastor Steven G. Lee (March 1, 2024)
