Subject: Redefining Wealth: A Path Towards True Economic and Social Well-Being (03/20/'24) -Message

Subject: Redefining Wealth: A Path Towards True Economic and Social Well-Being Dear Friends and Colleagues, In a time when the health of our economy and the well-being of our society are more interconnected than ever, it's crucial we step back and consider what truly defines a healthy economy. It's not just about the numbers; it's about real impact on real people's lives—reducing homelessness, hunger, and the struggle for affordable housing even amid rising costs. A profound piece of wisdom reminds us, "Watch out and guard yourselves from every kind of greed; because a person's true life is not made up of the things he owns, no matter how rich he may be" (Luke 12:15). This calls us to question: What are we valuing? Are we measuring our lives by what we accumulate, or by the quality and impact of our actions? The stark reality of growing income inequality places immense pressure on our communities, especially on middle- and low-income families. Stability starts with a home. Without it, the foundation of our lives and the lives around us begins to crumble. Yet, amidst these challenges, we are reminded of the importance of humility and duty. "So you also, when you have done all that is commanded you, say, 'We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty'" (Luke 17:7-10). This perspective shifts the focus from individual gain to collective service and responsibility. Let's embrace this moment as a call to action. Together, we can redefine what it means to be wealthy, not in material terms, but in terms of compassion, community, and the collective well-being. It's about fulfilling our duty to one another and to society at large, ensuring that everyone's basic needs are met and that we build a future grounded in equity and compassion. I encourage you to share this message and join in the conversation. How can we, as individuals and as a community, contribute to a truly healthy economy and a harmonious society? Warm regards, Pastor Steven G. Lee (March 20, 2024)
