Statement: The Finger of God (06/29/'24) -Statement

Statement: The Finger of God Today, we reflect on the profound acts of divine love and mercy illustrated by the finger of God, from Mount Sinai to the streets of Jerusalem. On Mount Sinai: God met Moses amidst thunder and lightning, imparting His eternal law through the sacred touch of His finger. The stone tablets, inscribed with divine precision, bore the weight of heaven’s justice and love, forming a covenant with His chosen people. In Jerusalem: Jesus confronted a moment of judgment and condemnation. A woman, caught in her sins, stood vulnerable before her accusers. In response, Jesus bent down and wrote in the dirt with His finger, reflecting the ancient act on Sinai. This gesture conveyed a profound message of grace and mercy. Divine Intentionality: Both acts, on stone and in dust, highlight God's intentionality. The law given on Sinai and the grace shown in Jerusalem are expressions of His unwavering love and compassion. The silent writing of Jesus convicted the accusers, leading them to drop their stones and depart, leaving the woman forgiven and loved. Continuity of God's Love: The narrative from stone to soil bridges the chasm between divine justice and human frailty. God's law and His grace are not in opposition but are complementary aspects of His love. The law guides us in righteousness, while grace offers redemption and hope. Present-Day Application: The finger of God continues to write upon our hearts, calling us to live by His law and embrace His mercy. We are reminded that God's love is unchanging and ever-present, regardless of our past. Transformative Truth: The message, "I still love you," written in our hearts, invites us to live in the balance of justice and grace, law and love. This truth transforms our lives, guiding us to embody both divine justice and compassion. This reflection underscores the enduring message of God's love, urging us to live righteously while embracing His boundless mercy. Pastor Steven G. Lee (June 29, 2024)
