Subject: Reflecting on the Chasm of Mercy (06/17/'24)

Subject: Reflecting on the Chasm of Mercy Dear Friends, I wanted to share a reflection with you that has been weighing heavily on my heart. A great chasm has been fixed between you and us, a vast divide of choices and consequences. Neither will they be convinced, even though someone should rise from the dead, for hearts of stone remain, unmoved and unfed. "Send Lazarus to my father’s house," cries the rich man in despair, "for I have five brothers, in need of a heavenly share, so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment." In the echoes of his plea, the desperation is clear: "If someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent." Yet, the voice of Abraham, firm and wise, responds, "If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they rise." A great chasm has been fixed, a divide so wide, between the truth of life and the folly of pride. Even in the face of miracles, the hardened heart remains, blind to the resurrection, bound by earthly chains. In the silence of the grave, the lesson rings clear: Repentance comes not from fear, but from the love we hold dear. A great chasm has been fixed, yet a bridge can be built, through faith, hope, and love, our spirits are filled. Let us heed the warning, embrace the light, for the path to redemption lies within our sight. A great chasm has been fixed, but mercy still calls: Rise from the ashes, tear down the walls. May we always strive to build bridges and embrace the light of mercy. Pastor Steven G. Lee (June 17, 2024)
