Message: The Interplay of Judaism and Stoicism: Ethical and Philosophical Synergies (06/08/'24)

The Interplay of Judaism and Stoicism: Ethical and Philosophical Synergies In ancient lands where cultures blend, a tale of thought begins to wend. From Athens' schools to Judah's heart, two streams of wisdom shared their part. A Stoic sage, with calm and grace, spoke of Logos in every place. Divine reason, nature's law, in each detail, it would draw. Judah's scribes with sacred pen, wrote of God, and laws for men. In Torah's light, they saw the way, to live with justice day by day. Ethics bridged their worlds so vast, a common quest that would outlast. Virtue, wisdom, self-control, guiding every seeking soul. Providence and fate entwined, both traditions deeply mined. In each fate a hand divine, in Jewish lore and Stoic line. Philo in Alexandria’s halls, merged the wisdom of these calls. With Greek thought and Hebrew lore, he opened up a deeper door. Two rivers flowing side by side, in Hellenistic times they tried, to grasp the truth in union strong, in philosophy and faith’s sweet song. So here’s to those who sought the blend, of ancient truths that still transcend. In every heart, these teachings live, a legacy both deep and give. Best regards, Pastor Steven G. Lee (June 8, 2024)
